Opening words by

Lisa Sharkey

Jens Lichtenberger was a much-loved raconteur and revered retired Barrister. He dwelt in the spoken and written word and enjoyed photography in all its forms.

He had a great eye, especially for juxtapositions, represented well in his street photography. I am told that he often approached people on the street and before they knew it, he had charmed a photograph of them.

Jens loved his friends, and over fine wine and dining, he captured beautiful portraits that distil the inner voice of his subjects.

His observations of landscapes, especially these large works are transporting and skilful.

It was difficult to edit Jens’ extensive body of work, to whittle it down to the works on these walls as there were so many good ones to choose from.

I hope that you will consider including one or more of Jens’ editioned photographs in your art collection, to enjoy his inimitable style.

I would like to thank Lea for this opportunity to curate Jens’ exhibition and for her commitment and long hours spent to honour Jens in this way.

For help with the installation of these works I thank Lea & Kaarina, Nadia, Zoe and Felix and Huon and to thank the staff of Gaffa especially Jenifer.

I also acknowledge the printers:

Ben Ali Ong of Rewind

Peter Solness – who printed the large B/W prints

And Sandy Barnard of Sandy Prints

Thank you all.
